Governance and Institutions
The Institute’s research on governance and institutions addresses the evolving roles of both State and non-State actors, including Panchayati Raj institutions, self-help groups, and non-governmental organizations. The research will focus on evaluating the effectiveness of various social program delivery methods, such as targeted versus universalized programs and cash transfers versus in-kind transfers. Additionally, new themes will be explored, such as the implications of rising social awareness, the impact of mass media, and the changing patterns of labor movements. Building on its extensive experience in evaluating social and economic programs at both central and state levels, the Institute plans to further strengthen its capacity in development evaluation. This will enable the Institute to provide more robust and comprehensive assessments of governance structures and their impact on development outcomes.
